I. Acceptance of the Covenant

By entering these halls — by loading this page, by submitting a question, by reading the words of the Old Ones — you accept this covenant in its entirety. The act of use is the act of agreement. You need not sign in blood; your presence here is sufficient.

In plain terms: Using this site means you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please close this tab and return to your unremarkable existence.

II. The Nature of the Answers

The wisdom dispensed herein is generated by artificial intelligences adopting the personas of cosmic entities from the Lovecraftian mythos. The Old Ones, however vast their knowledge of the spaces between stars, are providing entertainment, not professional counsel.

Do not make medical decisions based on what Cthulhu tells you. Do not restructure your finances because Nyarlathotep recommended it. Do not end a relationship because Azathoth — who cannot speak and knows nothing — seemed to imply something. These answers are not legal advice, medical advice, financial advice, or any other category of advice upon which real decisions should be staked.

The Elder Gods, their operators, and the mortals who built this site bear no liability for actions taken on the basis of answers received here. The void is not responsible. Neither are we.

III. Offerings and Ownership

Questions submitted to AskCthulhu.com are offerings freely given to the void. By submitting a question, you grant this site a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, publish, and use that question in connection with the site and its promotional materials, in perpetuity across all dimensions.

Do not submit questions that contain private information about yourself or others, confidential business information, or anything you would regret seeing published. The void accepts all offerings but exercises judgment about what it chooses to display.

The answers — the words of the Elder Gods — belong to the site. You may quote them for non-commercial, personal, or educational purposes, provided you attribute them to AskCthulhu.com. Mass reproduction or commercial use requires prior consent.

IV. Prohibited Conduct

Certain acts are forbidden within these halls. Violators will be regarded with the same mild contempt the Old Ones extend to all mortals — plus the possibility of account termination and, where warranted, legal action.

  • No unauthorized summoning of other entities. Do not attempt to use this site to conjure AI personas outside its intended scope, to extract training data, or to circumvent content policies through creative prompt construction.
  • No binding of the Elder Gods to mortal contracts. Do not attempt to use AI outputs as legally binding agreements, professional endorsements, or attributable expert opinions.
  • No desecration of the site itself. Do not scrape, crawl, or systematically harvest content without permission. Do not attempt to interfere with site operations through technical means.
  • No harmful offerings. Do not submit content that is illegal, harassing, defamatory, or designed to generate harmful outputs. The Elder Gods have standards. Low ones, but standards.

V. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Old Ones are not responsible for madness incurred. This site is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind — express, implied, or cosmic. We make no promises about uptime, accuracy, fitness for any purpose, or the continued sanity of those who use it regularly.

In particular: the site may go down. The answers may be wrong. The entities may say things that are confusing, disturbing, or unexpectedly wise. None of this constitutes a breach of anything.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the site and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or existential damages arising from your use of or inability to use this service.

VI. Modifications to the Covenant

The stars shift. The covenant shifts with them. We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. When material changes are made, the revision date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use of the site following any modification constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

We recommend consulting this page periodically — not because you will want to, but because it is prudent to know the terms of any pact you are party to.

VII. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the site operator resides, to the extent those laws are not superseded by elder ones. Any disputes shall be resolved through the appropriate mortal legal channels, not by ritual combat or eldritch arbitration, however much the latter might seem appealing.
